I’m Not A Member Of APC, I Am Madam Due Process – Lauretta Onochie To Senate

The Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, has denied before the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Committee that she is not a member of the All Progressives Congress.

She, however, admitted swearing an oath at an Abuja Federal High Court that she was a member of the APC.

She nevertheless said she stopped being a member of the party immediately after the 2019 elections.
She stated this in an opening remarks during her screening as INEC national commissioner nominee by the Senate Committee on INEC.INEC to commence Voter's RegistrationShe said, “I’ve no partisanship in my blood. I have seen many petitions against my nomination not only from the PDP, but also from some APC members. I’m not partisan. They know. It is about the law. No one has any reason to fear for my nomination as INEC commissioner representing Delta. As far as I’m concerned, I’m madam due process. That’s why all the attacks. I follow due process, I follow the law.”

Onochie further told the panel that Mrs May Agbamuche, a serving INEC National Commissioner from Delta State, is actually representing Cross River on the board of the electoral umpire.PRESIDENT-BUHARI-KOKO-TV-NGRecall that the nomination of Onochie, who currently serves as Senior Special Assistant on New Media to President Buhari, has provoked serious public outcry with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and civil society organisations (CSOs), kicking against her nomination.
The PDP said Onochie is a card-carrying member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC); and by virtue of her political affiliation with the APC, she is not fit and proper to be appointed as an election officer.
The party argued that Onochie would pollute the atmosphere of neutrality, and fair play in the Commission if the Senate goes ahead to approve her nomination. The screening is ongoing.
