Former French Prime Minister, François Fillon And Wife Sentenced To Jail For Embezzling Public Funds

The Former French Prime Minister Francois Fillon and his have been sentenced to jail for embezzlement of public funds during their term in office. The prime minister was said to have created a fake job for his wife during his time in office and paid her using public funds.

The French prime minister was said to have created a fake portfolio for his wife in 2017 where she was paid  ($1.13 million)in public funds. His wife Penelope is said to have collected $135,000 from a magazine company under the disguise of consultancy work. Mr. Fillon was sentenced to five years in prison, three of which were suspended, as well as a €375,000 fine. Fillon was also banned from running for elected office for 10 years.  His wife was handed a three year suspended sentence and fined the same amount.
