Election Drama: INEC Removes Amina Zakari From The Presidential Poll Collation Center

Just a month to general elections, Amina Zakari has been excluded from the collation center for presidential results. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removed Amina Zakari and other national commissioners following allegations that she was a relative of the president. Initially, Zakari was appointed to lead the collation center during the presidential elections to be held on the 16th of February. But after the allegations claiming she was a close relative of the president, one Zakari had dispelled herself, the INEC had to withdraw her from the position. The Nation newspaper disclosed that the collation of election results would be done at the collation secretariat and not the collation centre. They added that: “No national commissioner is in charge of collation of presidential poll results. It is true that there is what is called collation centre but it is separate from the collation secretariat, which is responsible for the collation of results. A source also revealed to the Nation that: “No national commissioner will be appointed into the secretariat committee. So, Hajiya Amina Zakari or any national commissioner does not have anything to do with the collation of results.”Photo Credit: Getty
