David Beckham Handed 6-Months Driving Ban

David Beckham has been handed a six-month driving ban by a British court after pleading guilty to using a mobile phone while at the wheel. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star was filmed by a passer-by using his mobile phone while driving his Bentley through “slow moving traffic” in central London on 21 November last year. “Instead of looking straight forward, paying attention to the road, he appeared to be looking at his lap,” Prosecutor Matthew Spratt told the court. After pleading guilty to the charge, the 44-year-old also received an extra six penalty points on his licence, bringing his total to 12 points, and a £750 fine ($975/870 euros). Beckham had been handed the previous six points for prior speeding offences.

Beckham has “no recollection” of incident 

Beckham’s lawyer Gerrard Tyrrell said his client had “no recollection of the day in question or this particular incident”. He added: “There is no excuse for what took place but his view is that he cannot remember.”

Beckham escapes previous prosecution on technicality 

Beckham managed to avoid prosecution for a previous traffic offence last September due to a technicality. The ex-LA Galaxy midfielder was given a speeding charge for driving 59mph in a 40mph zone in west London in January last year.
