The Abuja Division Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal challenging the academic qualification of President Muhammadu Buhari to contest the last presidential election.

A three-man judgment panel of the court which was led by Justice Tinuade Akomolafe-Wilson affirmed the earlier verdict of the Federal High Court in Abuja which had dismissed the suit on the grounds that it was statute-barred and could not be entertained by the Court.

Justice Mohammed Idris, who delivered the judgment of the Court of Appeal today, noted that the case had become statute barred, as it was not filed within 14 days from when the cause of action arose as stipulated under section 285(9) of the Nigerian Constitution.
