The former president of the United States Barack Obama is mourning the loss of his grandmother Sarah Ogwel Onyango Obama. The politician took to his Twitter page to announce her death and also penned a loving note to her.
Sarah Obama passed away Monday while receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment at a hospital in Kisumu, Western Kenya, authorities said in a statement. She was 99 years of age. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in a statement said her death was a huge loss to the nation and she will be greatly missed.
“The passing away of Mama Sarah is a big blow to our nation. We’ve lost a strong, virtuous woman. A matriarch who held together the Obama family and was an icon of family values. Obama said they will miss her but continue to celebrate her long and remarkable life.
