She also went on to point out that people of this generation no longer live past 80, 90 years because most of the food that they consume adds nothing to the body and is one of the life lessons she has learned. When asked how was growing up then different from now, she said the way people grow up in the olden days is different from today. I knew my maternal grandfather very well although he died at the age of 117, and still, yet some people said he didn’t live long enough. Also, my maternal great-grandmother died at the age of 105. So then there was the grace of living a long life because what they eat then is different from what they eat now.

For example in the olden days, my grandmother likes to eat a special kind of beans (feregede) with corn. She prepares it very early in the morning, it is this special beans (feregede) I usually eat in the morning. When we close from school, i.e. primary school, we usually go to meet her because we know the special beans is ready for lunch. I can’t say this is the food that made them live longer. My grandmother lived for 84 years before she died, then I believed that what they ate then made them live longer, my grandmother’s generation started drinking tea. When my grandmother was ill, I brought her here to Ado, she requested for milk and egg, I told her that she is too old to be eating egg, but she said I should leave her to eat and die. So then I had a lot of egg and milk in the house, because of her in order to prepare tea for her every morning. So, the food of the olden days is nutritional to the body, even the pounded yam we talk about now, that some say it is not good is very good. My grandfather ate different types of food, Indomie which doesn’t benefit the body to some extent, my opinion though. Watch the video below;
