Yesterday, President Buhari announced Abubakar Adamu Mohammed as the new Inspector-General of Police. Adamu will assume office after the retirement of Ibrahim Idris, who has attained the statutory retirement age of 60 in the force. Here are 8 things you should know about the new IG;
- Abubakar Adamu was born on the 9th of November, 1961. He joined the police force in 1986 an has a bachelors degree in geography.
- People in the force call him Adamu Mohammed Lafia, in reference to his place of birth, which is the Nasarawa State capital.
- Until his appointment as the new IG, Adamu was an assistant inspector-general by rank.
- The new IG was also a one-time director of peacekeeping operations and a former police commissioner in Enugu. He was also an AIG in charge of Zone 5.
- The police chief has also served with the United Nations and INTERPOL.
- He was also a former Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCP) in Ekiti State.
- Adamu is currently a directing staff member at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State.
