Abba Kyari: 31 Northern Lawyers Volunteer To Defend Suspended DCP Against FBI

A group of thirty-one lawyers from Northern Nigeria have volunteered to render free legal services to suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police with giant strides, DCP Abba Kyari, against the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation FBI.

Recall that Abba Kyari, in a report by the FBI was alleged to have collected about N8 million from Hushpuppi to help effect the arrest and detention of his rival, Chibuzo Kelly Vincent, following a disagreement from a fraud deal they embarked upon. Following this accusation, the super cop was sacked and calls for his extradition have been made.Abba Kyari: 31 Northern Lawyers Volunteer To Defend Suspended DCP Against FBIIn a statement released on Wednesday, August 11, the spokesperson of the lawyers, Sunusi Bappah Salisu, said all the volunteer lawyers were drawn across all the 19 northern states and religions. Salisu said the lawyers volunteered to render free legal services for the preservation of Kyari’s fundamental rights that might be potentially jeopardized by his alleged indictment by a court in the United States of America.

He mentioned that the group would critically review the procedures adopted by the FBI to get the US Court to indict Kyari on allegations of involvement in charges filed against a suspected fraudster, Ramon Abbas aka Hushpuppi. “In apparent response to recent calls for support for Abba Kyari by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), a group of about 31 young northern Nigerian lawyers has volunteered to render legal services to the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police.Abba Kyari: 31 Northern Lawyers Volunteer To Defend Suspended DCP Against FBI“We would raise questions involving the possibility of the occasioning of breaches to Kyari’s fundamental rights entrenched in Articles 6 and 7 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Right, which essentially state that every individual shall have the right to liberty and to the security of his person and every individual shall have the right to have his cause heard.
