Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the alleged scrapping of key Shari’a components by the State Government.

It claimed the action was taken by the government through a circular by the permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs, Lawal Hussain.

The party stated that the seven components are Quranic Recitation and Tajweed Agency, Shari’a Research and development Commission, Public complaint Commission, A t Corruption Commission, Directorate for Quranic schools and Islamic Organization, Islamic preachings and Jumaat Mosques and Eid praying grounds Establishment Regulation Commission.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the Zamfara APC publicity secretary, Mallam Yusuf Idris.

“These components played essential roles in fostering Islamic practices, education, and governance within the State; their removal has raised concerns about the future of these initiatives.”

The party argued that Governor Lawal’s decision was a significant departure from the foundations of the State, where nearly 100 percent of the population is Muslim.

“Of particular concern is the expulsion of the Ulama Consultative Council, UCC, from the Government House, with its secretariat reallocated to the governor’s wife, who does not hold any recognized constitutional role in governance. The UCC was established to advise the governor on Islamic matters and ensure that the government’s actions align with Shari’ah principles.

“Governor Lawal’s actions have raised questions about his commitment to Islamic practices and his understanding of their importance in Zamfara State. Critics argue that the dismantling of these components will lead to the erosion of Islamic values and practices, potentially causing disruptions in the Muslim community.

“Furthermore, the scrapping of institutions like the Qur’anic Recitation and Tajweed Agency and the Sharia Research and Development Commission has prompted concerns about the state’s ability to support Islamic education and research adequately,” the party added.

The APC called on Governor Lawal to reverse his decision and restore the scrapped Shari’ah implementation commissions.
