President Muhammadu Buhari has taken a subtle jab at the APC National Leader and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying nobody will just be sitting in Lagos and giving orders on what to do.
President Buhari said this during his interview broadcast on Arise TV on Thursday, stating that the ruling APC’s decision making process regarding its leadership and 2023 elections would be bottom-up and not as dictated. You Can't Sit In Lagos And Control - Buhari Jabs Tinubu Stylishly
Recall that the All Progressives Party had been created from the former Action Congress, a party domiciled in South West. Back then, the Jagaban of Lagos, who is the rock on which Lagos State leadership decisions are taken, had a full grasp of the party but since the party metamorphosed into a national one, it became harder to hold the grip of power and decision making. Since 2015 when APC came to power, Mr Tinubu has continued to face challenges from other party leaders, denying him a firm grip on the party.

In his interview, Buhari, was asked which part of the South would APC support to control the presidency when he leaves office in 2023. The President refused to comment on power shift to the Southern part of the country, stating that decisions would be made by the party He, however, stated that a participatory bottom-up decision making process, which according to he said would afford members a sense of belonging will be done, and not as dictated by ‘anybody just sitting in Lagos’.You Can't Sit In Lagos And Control - Buhari Jabs Tinubu Stylishly“Should we allow the party to decide?”, he queried as he tried to evade the question on which part of the south would have the presidency in 2023. I just told you we started from bottom up. And I gave the acting Chairman (Mala Buni) the end of this month of June to give me report on the convention we are going to conduct and then arrange the elections and started this from bottom up. So, members of the party will feel they are involved in decision making. Nobody is just sitting in Lagos and asking them what to do.”

When further asked what his succession plan is, President Buhari again dodged putting in any personal opinion or statement, rather he insisted it all depends on the party. “Succession plan depends on the party.
