Nigerian playwright, poet and essayist, Professor Wole Soyinka, has urged president Muhammadu Buhari to choose between Abacha and Abiola. According to the Nobel Laureate, Buhari cannot honour MKO Abiola in one breath and admire his tormentor Sani Abacha in the same breath.
Soyinka said this at the national honours investiture for heroes of democracy. In his words: “Dear Mr. President, you cannot honour Abiola in one breath and admire his tormentor in the same breath.” Soyinka also added that the anti-democrats deserved some mention too while the heroes of democracy were being recognised.
