The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer in a trending video revealed that the police cannot be blamed if they stop and search someone wearing dreadlocks, especially if they have a tattoo to match.

The newly appointed Lagos PPRO Benjamin Hundeyin, while answering a DW reporter on police profiling and harassment maintained that police profile people based on their previous experience.

Hundeyin, who is very active on the social media platform Twitter, argued that the job of a policeman is not easy and that sometimes, they might need to profile people because they look like a particular set of people.

When quizzed on the way policemen stop and check people’s account balances on the road, the PPRO stated that the police would appreciate it if such people report the incident to the police station, instead of coming to rant on Twitter.

The Nigerian Police is trying heavily to redeem its image in the eyes of Nigerians. The body now has a very effective system on Social media, spearheaded by the Force PPRO Prince Monye, who is ready to address and tackle issues, once it appears on the timeline.

Despite all their efforts, Nigerians are still not comfortable with the attitude of the police, especially after the mountain of issues that arose during the Endsars protest in the country.
