Women enjoy better sex with their husbands than they would if having a fling, research suggests.
They are more likely to orgasm and be sexually satisfied with a committed partner than on a one-night stand.
Experts in the US claim for many, sex is more rewarding when coupled with genuine romance.
More than 1,000 women aged between 18 and 71 were quizzed about their love lives over the previous year in a Florida University study. Those in committed relationships scored 15 per cent higher for average orgasmic function compared with those who only had casual flings.
Their reported sexual satisfaction was also ten per cent higher. Women who had sex with casual and committed partners had an enjoyment boost when romping with a regular, romantic lover.
Writing in the Journal of Sex Research, lead scientist Val Wongsomboon said: “On average, women experienced greater sexual outcomes in committed sex compared to casual sex.”
Commenting on the findings, psychotherapist Phillip Hodson, said: “Possible explanations are women need more sophisticated touching than just standard intercourse to reach climax. And they have more to lose from insecure relationships should they become pregnant.”
