A 62 year-old woman reportedly passed away on Monday while struggling for COVOD-19 palliative in Rivers State.
The State government had shared pallaitives for her indigenes in Elele Kingdom, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State and the deceased was said to be trampled upon during the process.
Reports have it that the process was poorly managed and at such, there was a stampede. The deceased, identified as Mrs. Florence Onuobodo, alongside four other women were trampled upon. The four, which includes a 91-year-old woman sustained varying degrees of injury during the stampede but Mrs Florence couldn’t survive and she passed away. Commenting on the incident, a counsellor representing Elele, ward 4, at Ikwerre LGA Legislative Assembly, Emmanuel Amadi, denied the allegation that the process for sharing the palliatives was poorly managed. He said it was unfortunate that the deceased died at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital where she was rushed to.
