Will Smith is returning to music!
The 49-year-old Hollywood actor and rapper has been reported to have recoded the official 2018 World Cup anthem with Kosovar pop singer Era Istrefi and reggaeton star Nicky Jam. Smith who started as the MC of the hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince before going solo during the summer of 1997 with the release of “Men in Black”, the theme song for the film of the same name that topped singles charts across the world and UK.
Will Smith hasn’t released an album since 2005’s “Lost and Found”, and a new track with Jazzy Jeff in 2017, “Get Lit,” wasn’t a success.
US producer, Diplo will produce the World Cup track expected to be released on May 25. Nicky Jam whose most recent single, “X,” has been streamed almost 800m times on YouTube will be on the song with Smith and Istrefi who made her breakthrough among Albanian-speaking audiences in Europe following the release of her debut single “Mani për money” in 2013 at the age of 19. The trio are will be performing the official World Cup song at either the opening or closing ceremony.
Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez performed “We Are One” (Ole Ola) at the 2014 opening ceremony, while Shakira’s “Waka Waka” (This Time for Africa) closed out the 2010 competition.
