Wike Bans Protest In Port Harcourt, Youths Threaten To Assemble

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has banned throughout the State, including the nationwide #EndSars campaign which the youths of the State planned to hold today Tuesday.
The State Commissioner for Information Paulinus Nsirim announced this in a statement released via the Ministry’s Twitter handle. According to the statement, the Wike-led administration saw no need for the protests as the SARS unit of Police has been dissolved already by the IGP.Nyesom Wike“Government took this decision because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists. Parents and Guardians are therefore advised to ensure that their children or wards do not violate this order. Law enforcement agencies are also directed to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book. Paulinus Nsirim Commissioner for Information”, the statement ended

The youths are, however, not pleased with the order, and they described the ban as an infringement on their fundamental rights. Going further as many query the Governor’s order, the youths dared and threatened to hold the protests against the Governor’s directive.
