Why We Lost To Super Eagles – DR Congo Coach Reveals Shocking Details!

The Super Eagles were forced to a 1-1 draw by the Simba of DR Congo on Monday (May 28) at Adokiye Amiesimake Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Gernot Rohr admitted that he saw some problems during the international friendly match, but Congo’s head coach Florent Ibenge just revealed that his team didn’t come for a win. “We did not come to win the Super Eagles of Nigeria but to give her a good match that could prepare the team well for the World Cup in Russia,” Ibenge told NAN, adding that, “we came to give the Super Eagle a good match to prepare and strengthen her for the World Cup. Nigeria has a good team and it was necessary to play a good game to put the team in a good shape for the World Cup.”

Bursaspor defender, William Troost-Ekong who made his 19th international appearance for the Super Eagles in the encounter scored the only goal, while Cedric Ngulubi secured a point for DR Congo converting a 78th minute spot kick shortly after Ola Aina fouled Issama Mpeko in the penalty area.

“We didn’t win the match but it was an interesting test for everybody, especially for some players we did not know so well and I am satisfied with their performance,” Rohr told press. “We did not have the profile I saw in the center-forward but now we have found it. In this game we also saw that we have some problems with our full back, we will work on it, as we have few days to be ready.” The Nigerian national team will face England at the Wembley Stadium on June 2.
