Patrice Evra has questioned the motivation behind Alexis Sanchez’s decision to reject Manchester City last January.
Patrice Evra says he can’t understand why Alexis Sanchez rejected the chance to join Man City in order to sign for Manchester United last year. Chile international Sanchez was at the centre of an intense transfer battle last January between the two Manchester clubs but eventually opted for a move to Jose Mourinho’s side.
Since the 30-year-old moved to Old Trafford he has endured a dire run of form and been part of two successive seasons without a trophy, while in contrast City have won five trophies in the past 18 months. Evra believes Sanchez has paid the ultimate price for his decision and the former France defender questioned the true reasons behind his decision to move to United.
“Some players only come for the money, I am not afraid to say that,” the United favourite told the media. “I have nothing against him, but Sanchez, when I saw the deal, that’s when I thought the Manchester United history just went down. He had Manchester City, they were offering less money but he was going to play a better football than United – I’m sorry about that, but City play better football. Guardiola will also improve him.
“So I want to know what is the real reason for choosing United? Don’t tell me he loved Manchester United when he was a kid. It’s either the money or he wanted to be the number one, take the No 7 shirt and be the star.”
