The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai, has vowed not to leave the theatre of Operation Lafiya Dole, until Boko Haram is defeated in the northeast.

Buratai had earlier announced his relocation to the northeast, following the pounding of the insurgents by the Chadian Army from the Lake Chad axis.

The Chief of Army Staff during a special Easter celebration with the troops on Monday at Ngamdu Special Super Camp, said: “We will not leave this insurgency to last like in other countries that have fought insurgency for close to 50 years. We cannot allow that to happen here.

While addressing the gallant troops, Lt. Gen. Buratai said, “You may wonder why this counterinsurgency or counterterrorism operation has lingered on for too long. We all know globally, counterterrorism is very complex. There are some countries that have fought insurgency and terrorism for close to 50 years. Well, we are not going to wait until 50 year; is that clear?”

“We will there with you, no going back once we commence. We will be with you in the valleys, at the hills, in the jungle, in the river and so on”, Buratai assured.

“We are here and will make sure that we get ourselves properly equipped, properly motivated and I promise you will have the best of times. And as such, we want the best out of you. We want that commitment. We need that courage and determination,” he urged.
