“We Are Not Happy About The Money” – Borussia Dortmund Laments Manchester United Signing Jadon Sancho For £73m

Jadon Sancho‘s imminent £73million move to Manchester United has been confirmed by Borussia Dortmund, who have been left furious by the low transfer fee and the player’s desire to leave.

The summer switch was first confirmed by the German giants in a statement to the stock market on Thursday morning, before CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke sat down in front of the press to further explain the situation.

At the unveiling of new manager Marco Rose, Watzke revealed that an agreement is in place for Sancho, but that Dortmund were unhappy with the fee, given they were pushing for £108m just one year ago. Dortmund had previously acknowledged that they were going to lose Sancho earlier on Thursday.
BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said: “We reached a general agreement with Manchester United on the transfer of Jadon Sancho, pending full completion, as there are still some formalities to agree on and the medical check to be completed.

“At the end of the day, this is done explicitly at Jadon’s request. We would have liked to keep him. But he behaved fantastic and was superb in the second half of the season. It makes a difference whether someone communicates this clearly or goes on strike.
We are not happy about the money, but are sad that he is leaving. However, we will find solutions. I have full confidence in [new sporting director] Sebastian Kehl and [outgoing sporting director] Michael Zorc.”

New Borussia Dortmund head coach Marco Rose added: “Jadon’s qualities were unpredictable. Every coach likes to have a player like Jadon Sancho on his team. We knew that it could mean that Jadon won’t be there next season.”

The move brings to an end a year-long chase for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who had targeted Sancho as a priority addition for the club last season.
United are also chasing other new signings this summer, and are said to be hopeful of bringing in Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane.

The club are opening talks with the Spanish giants over a £50m deal for the 2018 World Cup winner, who was in the France squad that crashed out of Euro 2020 on Monday night.
Varane is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract in the Spanish capital, and is thought to be receptive to the idea of a move to Old Trafford.
