#WaragainstLGBT- Egytian Tv Host, Mohammed Al-Gheiti Jailed For Interviewing A Gay Man

Popular Tv Host, Mohammed al-Gheiti has on Sunday, January 20, been sentenced to a year in prison for interviewing a gay man last year. Mohammed who has on several occasions aired his stance on his dislike for homosexuality was accused of promoting the act and holding the religion in contempt. The Tv host was fined 3,000 Egyptian pounds ($147) by the misdemeanours court in Giza and also ordered he be put under surveillance during the period he would be serving his sentence. This was revealed according to the lawyer, Samir Sabir, who brought the case against him. It was recalled that in August 2018, Mohammed hosted a gay man on his talk show to which they discussed homosexuality on air. The unidentified gay man revealed during the interview that he was a sex worker and is in a relationship with another man. In reaction to this, Egypt’s top media body, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation suspended the channel for two weeks for “professional violations”.Photo Credit: Getty
