US Mission Congratulates Nigerian Professor For Receiving $300,000 Prize

The United States Mission in Nigeria has congratulated a history professor, Saheed Aderinto, for becoming the first Nigerian to receive the $300,000 Dan David Prize.

The Mission made this known on its Facebook page late Monday.

The post read, “Congratulations to Nigerian-American Professor of History and African and African Diaspora Studies at Florida International University, Saheed Aderinto, on becoming the first Nigerian to receive the $300,000 Dan David Prize—the largest financial reward for excellence in the historical discipline in the world.

“Professor Aderinto is the Founding President of the Lagos Studies Association.”

Aderinto, a professor of History and African Diaspora Studies at Florida International University, is the first Nigerian to win the prize.

He was among the nine scholars who clinched the award considered the largest history prize in the world.

In a statement on Saturday by Femi Adesina, presidential spokesperson, Buhari commended the professor for being a “worthy ambassador of the country”.
