Update: Police Discovers Body Of Indian Stuntman Who Disappeared After Being Lowered In The River Ganges In India

The body of Indian stuntman that went missing after he tried performing one of his magic tricks in the River Ganges has been discovered by the police. 40-year-old Chanchal Lahiri was lowered into the river while being tied up with chains and ropes in Houdini-inspired stunt. Before his trick, Chanchal stated that: “If I can free myself it will be magic, if I cannot it will be tragic.” It, however, became tragic after he failed to swim up to the surface prompting the authorities to search for him. Lahiri’s body, limbs still tied with steel chains, was washed up about 1km away from the site of the attempt. In a statement by the deputy commissioner of the port division of Kolkata police, Syed Waquar Raza, rescue workers found Lahiri’s body late Monday after he had been washed up by the river. Recall that we earlier reported that Lahiri tried the same trick 21 years ago, and successfully pulled it off at the same venue. He was locked inside a bulletproof glass box and tied with a chain. According to reports, he was dropped from Howrah bridge but managed to come out in seconds.  Photo Credit: Getty
