Undetonated Explosive Believed To Be From Nigerian Civil War Discovered In Enugu

An unexploded high calibre bomb suspected to be from the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War, was on Wednesday discovered in Enugu, 47 years after the end of the war. According to the police spokesperson, Ebere Amaraizu, the civil war era bomb was found in a farmland at Amaetiti, Oji River Local Government Area of the state. “It was not detonated and was of a high calibre,” the police spokesperson said. The civil war was fought between Nigerian troops and the defunct secessionist republic of Biafra between 1967 and 1970. The discovery is even more significant now that there are renewed agitations for Biafra to secede from Nigeria. Reports have it that the Explosive Ordinance Unit in the state successfully evacuated the bomb.
