The lagos state mainland police command has uncovered an illegal blood bank run by a Paul Achelegbu in Bariga area of the state.He was arrested by a team led by Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgar after they received intelligence the suspect was draining blood from underage persons in his one room apartment in Bariga and selling off to clinics.
According to residents trouble started on June 10, after he drew two pints of blood from Ayomide Adesanya,a 17-year-old boy which caused the victim to pass out.it is said he’d also drawn blood 2 pints of blood from same boy on june 4 and payed him N2000
Adesanya while being visited in the hospital by Imohimi confessed the suspect has been draining blood from other persons and sells for N7000 per pint.
According to Imohimi:
“The mother told us that the daughter’s friend informed them of Adesanya’s condition after she saw him on a bike.”
But the suspect insisted he did not know Adesanya was underage saying he told him he was 20yrs of age
“It was when his parents came to confront me that I knew he was 17. He told me he was 20. I am a lab scientist. I was trained five years ago at Nigerian Institute of Laboratory Science Technology.
“Lab technicians from hospitals used to come and buy blood from me. I used to sell the blood through my assistant, Alfa. He’s the one who knows the hospitals he sold to. I do not know where he is at the moment.”
