The affected NIMC portal enables telecom firms, the Nigerian Immigration Service, banks and other organisations to verify the NIN of their customers before attending to them, in line with the federal government’s directive. Having directed the Nigerian Communications Commission to include the NIN in the requirements for all new and existing SIM cards, telecom firms are required to synchronize their SIM registration portals with the NIMC portal in order to verify the details of their subscribers.
The downturn experienced by the commission for the past five days have made it almost impossible for telecommunication firms to register or retrieve lost sim cards.
As the problem persist, it was learnt that the NIMC officials held a meeting with telecom firms and other stakeholders over the development.
