NBA President Olumide Akpata Condemns Police On Detaining Suspected Looters
“I have in the past 24 hours received several calls & complaints from lawyers and Nigerians generally about the recent public parade of hundreds of persons arrested and detained by the @PoliceNG on the suspicion of taking part in the looting and destruction of public buildings”, NBA President Olumide Akpata had begun on the streets of Twitter, condemning the arrest and detention of people by men of the Nigerian Police.
Recall that the Nigerian Bar Association NBA had promised to commence legal proceedings against the Federal Government and all authoritieson the killings which took place at the Lekki on Tuesday 20th October.Speaking in a series of tweets via his official Twitter handle today, Olumide Akpata noted that the Bar Association is completely opposed to any act of arson, vandalism, destruction of public or private assets or other forms of force or violence, however, the legal rights of citizens who are arrested on account of such allegations must be respected, especially their right to presumption of innocence. NBA to ensure the compliance of the Police to Fundamental Human Rights
