KOKO Women In Science: Motunrayo Coker Is That Genetics Guru Changing The Narratives And Touching Lives

For Women In Science award winner Motunrayo Coker is one of KOKO’s women in science who will do great thing because she hasn’t just made a difference, but she has earned herself a spot on the list.
From the Neuroscience and Ageing Research Unit, IAMRAT, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan is Motunrayo Coker. This PhD student specializes in genetics and heredity.

Her field of research lies in the role of genetics in memory loss or cognitive impairment after a stroke.

Her goal is to unravel the role of genetics in the cognitive disability experienced by post-stroke survivors. In 2021, Motunrayo was awarded the winner of the For Women In Science 2021 Prize by the Foundation L’Oréal and UNESCO during the official ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda.

The prize aims to promote women scientists in Africa in order to strengthen their visibility and representativeness in the science sector. Each year 20 Young Talent doctoral and post-doctoral students are rewarded for their research subject and its impact on society as well as the African continent.
