According to relationship experts, there’s a brutal new dating trend on the rise – and it’s particularly difficult to spot.

We’ve all heard of ghosting and catfishing, and now one expert has revealed that a new trend is set to become increasingly popular with the rise of online dating and social media.

Cheating is bad enough, but according to experts, people are now being micro-cheated on, too. Unlike a full-blown affair, micro-cheating refers to smaller acts of betrayal – similar to an “emotional affair” – such as flirting, liking another person’s Instagram post or dropping them a DM.

“Advances in technology and the multitude of available platforms means that people often feel there is endless choice,” explained dating expert Rachael Lloyd.

“This choice can sometimes lead people to make toxic decisions. It might start with a bit of flirting online, and build towards full-blown emotional affairs in the digital environment. The fallout from these situations can be as devastating as a physical affair. A couple of Instagram likes here and there might not seem so bad, however you need to consider the intent behind them.”

To avoid this kind of infidelity, Rachael recommends setting boundaries as soon as possible, explaining clear communication often helps.
