KOKO Women In Science: Ibukunoluwa Adetutu Olajide Is That Innovative Young Engineer Determined To Make A Difference

Ibukunoluwa Adetutu Olajide is one of KOKO’s women in science who will do great and she definitely deserves to be on this list.

Though a Ph.D student she has been doing remarkably well and hails from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Akure. Her research aims to develop an optical communication model capable of reacting to the specific conditions of tropical areas, using predictive algorithms. More broadly, she hopes that her research in the field of engineering will lead to the establishment of efficient communication networks and the development of reliable power supply on the continent.

Ibukunoluwa Adetutu Olajide grew up in a family where academia was important. Her father, who had majored in chemistry and biology, was a school principal and her mother a med-lab scientist. Her parents were therefore always encouraging her and provided her with advice and guidance. As a L’Oreal–Unesco Women in Science laureate, she received a €10,000 grant for her research.

She hopes that this research will help showcase proof-of-concept and the value of research and she will be able to reach out to potential funders, from industry and elsewhere, to fund a lab, which she has set herself as a medium-term goal.
