Former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina, has allegedly been nabbed.

Maina was arrested in neighbouring Niger Republic. The fugitive ex-Pensions reforms chief was nabbed by operatives of Nigeria’s intelligence service; as well as anti-corruption agents on Monday evening.

A top intelligence officer told PRNigeria that the arrest was made on an existing mutual relationship and security agreement between the two countries.

Maina faces a 12-count money laundering charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC accuses Maina of using his firm to launder about N2billion. Also, he had allegedly used part of the proceeds to acquire properties in Abuja.

The arrest of the fugitive will come as a huge relief to Senator Ali Ndume.

The senator, who was recently granted bail, had been arrested after Maina jumped bail. Ndume had stood as surety for the ex-Pensions reforms Chairman. Consequently, Maina’s abscondment had prompted Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court to order the remand of Ndume.

However, Ndume hregained his freedom on Friday, November 27, 2020

Meanwhile, EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said he was yet to be briefed on Maina’s arrest.Abdulrasheed Maina and Ali NdumePhoto Credit: Getty
