Ekiti Varsity Denies Plan To Sack Workers

The management of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, has dismissed rumours that the institution was planning to downsize its workforce.

The Vice-chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun, made the clarification on Monday during a press conference to herald the 27th convocation ceremony of the institution.

Prof. Olanipekun said that there was no intention to retrench workers even amid paucity of funds, noting that the university rather retrenching staff and management would strengthen the existing workforce for better service delivery.

The VC added that the allegation was the handiwork of mischief makers and some individuals who are bent on inciting staff against the management for their own self-interest.

”There is no iota of truth in the rumour. It was masterminded by irresponsible fifth columnists-who find delight in causing unnecessary confusion in the university community.

“The same persons behind this rumour are the ones that submitted memoranda in 2018, alleging that the university was overstaffed. I call on the general public to disregard the speculation”.

Olanipekun promised to continue to initiate positive ideas that would improve both the moral and academic excellence of the university through a partnership with relevant institutions and individuals.

He added that the management with the support of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the Governing Council, the Alumni Association and other stakeholders have continued to restructure and re-engineer the university to make it a great citadel of learning and paragon of excellence.
