2023: COVID-19 Responsible For Delay In Resumption Of Voter’s Registration – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that the delay in getting the continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise running ahead of 2023 general election is due to the presence of COVID-19 in the country.

INECSpeaking with newsmen, Chief press secretary to the INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi said the commission was not unaware of the calls for the registration to continue.

He explained that there are plans to resume the exercise in the first quarter of 2020.

“This virus is still very much with us and we are not out of the woods yet. The CVR is a national exercise that requires the mobilization of a lot of equipment, materials and personnel. The 10 fingerprints of the registrants will be captured. This has implications in the context of the COVID-19 protocols.
