Chimamanda Adichie Explains How An Email Inspired Her To Write Dear Ijeawele


Award-winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has explained how an email from a friend inspired her to write her latest literary masterpiece, “Dear Ijeawele”.
Speaking on Trevoh Noah’s The Daily Show, Chimamanda discussed the relationship between femininity and feminism, whether chivalry is really still necessary, men who are feminists, and Hillary Clinton’s Twitter.

The episode had some great moments between Adichie and Noah. A highlight was when Adichie spoke about how much she liked Noah’s mother, leading her to tell the host, “I think everything good in you is because your mother raised you.”
“It’s a compliment that sounds like an insult. You know, it’s like ‘everything good in you is from your mom. The rest of that shit is you. That’s you and your dad.’” Noah jokingly responded.
