APC Is An NGO Not Political Party – Dino Melaye
Nigerian politician Dino Melaye has declared that the All Progressive Congress (APC) is a Non-governmental Organisation and not a political party. He explained that the ruling party faced an imminent implosion due to the “illegality” of Governor Mai Mala-Buni-led Caretaker Committee.
The former explained that Buni’s appointment as caretaker chairman contravenes Section 183 of the 1999 Constitution as well as Article 17(iv) of the APC Constitution. Melaye spoke in a statement he titled: “The illegality or otherwise of the appointment of Governor Mai Mala Buni as the APC National Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.”
The statement reads partly: “That is why I concluded in many of my interviews that APC is an NGO and not a political party. “A party that has no functional National Working Committee and no Board of Trustees in six (6) years lacks the basic ingredients that make up a political party by law. This will give birth to an implosion that must come.”
