Before now, the sport was firmly in hands of European born fighters like the Irish heavyweight champion Conor McGregor and the undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomeov. But in the past three years, African born fighters have taken over the stage and shown their European and American counterparts how it is done.
Heavyweight UFC champion- Francis Ngannou
Francis Zavier Ngannou is the current Heavyweight champion of the world in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The Cameroonian-born martial artist have broken many record in such a little time and he is currently considered as the hardest puncher in the entire sport.
Ngannou made his UFC debut in 2015 and has since been piling up victories after victories. He is currently placed 5th in the UFC pound for pound ranking and also one of the highest paid in the sport.

Israel Adesanya- UFC Middle-weight Champion
Israel Mobolaji Odunayo Oluwafemi Temitayo Owolabi Adesanya is a Nigerian born Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter, and he is currently the Middle-weight champion in the sport. Adesanya started his career in Kickboxing and left the sport as a Glory Middleweight championship challenger.
He came into UFC as an unknown face and after a mountain of victories, he is now considered as one of the best striker in the sport and currently ranked number three in the men pound for pound.
Kamaru Usman- Former Welter Weight UFC Champion
Prior to his surprise loss to Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman was the welter weight champion and he is currently the best pound for pound fighter in the sport. After bullying his way throughout university and amateur MMA, he came into professional martial arts and he is already one of the best to ever enter into the ultimate fighting championship ring.
