Tyson Fury Splits From Trainer Ben Davison Ahead Of Deontay Wilder Rematch

Ben Davison has confirmed he has split from Tyson Fury ahead of the heavyweight’s rematch with Deontay Wilder next February.

The coach helped Fury turn his life around and lose over eight stone to return to boxing in June 2018.

Fury credited Davison as a key figure in overcoming his battle with depression, but reports emerged onSunday morning the Gypsy King had decided to part ways with his coach.

Davison responded to the speculation on Twitter, saying: ‘Obviously it’s not going stop until there’s an answer. Tyson and myself had to both make decisions for our careers, which resulted in our working relationship coming to an end. However, we remain friends and he will smash the dosser.’

Davison has faced criticism in his position as Fury’s head coach, with the fighter’s father, John, a vocal critic of the young trainer. After a gruelling encounter with Otto Wallin last September, Fury Snr called on his son to find a new team. ‘It has gone terribly wrong in the camp and someone is to blame. Tyson never landed a meaningful punch,’ he said. ‘I have seen this coming. I saw this coming ‘If he keeps hold of that team, that whole team, they will cost him his career. Ben Davison and everyone. The cutman [Jorge Capetillo] is the only one who can take any credit. It was like a shark’s mouth. If this was not his show, if he was the away fight, he would have been gone.’

Fury and Wilder are scheduled to fight again on 22 February, although there is yet to be an official announcement from either camp on the date or location.
