Trouble Looms In Imo As Result Collation Is Suspended Over Protests And Violence

The collation of Governorship results has been suspended in Imo state following massive protests and violence today, March 11th at the INEC collation center. This happened when the returning officer from Ideato South was asked by the Imo REC Prof. Francis Ezeonu to share the results of Ideato South result. Not long after, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agent, Uche Onyeagocha, and his counterpart Paschal Onwukaike of Democratic Alternative (DA) and Steve Asimobi of Redemption Party (RP) refused to accept the results from Ideato South. This resulted in a heated argument where Onyeagocha alleged that the Ideato South result favoured the Action Alliance candidate with an outrageous figure and as such should not be announced. Things escalated fast as it led to hurling of insults amongst the four parties and resulted in the tearing of the governorship election results for Ideato South. Onyeagocha also added that the announcement of the results made the PDP and other party agents to be intimidated at the Ideato South LGA collation center and prayed that the REC cancel the result. As this was going on,  Onyeagocha and the others were arrested by the security operatives present while Ezeonu and the Imo Returning Officer, Prof. Francis Otonta were taken to safety. As a result of this, the announcement of results in Imo state has been suspended. Before this, 11 councils have already announced theirs with 16 results still waiting to be announced. Photo Credit: Getty
