Travel: Places To Explore While Visiting Calabar

Calabar, Cross River State of Nigeria is a land of beauty indeed. It is one of the most popular tourists attractions in the country. There’s a lot of places to explore while visiting Calabar. Here are a few of them:
Duke Town church-
This is regarded as one of the oldest church in Nigeria. It was established by the Presbyterian missionaries upon arrival to Calabar in the early 19th century. It was built under the auspices of Rev. Hope M. Waddell. The colonial architecture of the building is indeed a sight to behold.

Calabar Museum-
On the hill overlooking the waterfront, in the Old Government House, stands the former residence of the colonial governor. With a striking design, the museum has a fascinating collection covering Calabar’s days as the Efik kingdom, the slave and palm-oil trade, and the colonial period.

Drill Monkey Rehab Centre-
This is an interesting conservation centre set up by some American biologists to cater for Drills, an endangered species of monkeys. With the huge attention it has received from government over the years, the centre has become a force to be reckoned with worldwide as a leading wildlife and forest conservation ranch.
The Marina Resort-
The Marina Resort is one of the most fascinating tourist destinations in Calabar. The resort is home to buildings dating back to the colonial era as well as modern facilities like the slave museum, speed boat ride, the carrousel horse ride, film/movie theatre, and night clubs. The resort affords visitors a rare view of the beautiful Calabar River in a relaxed atmosphere.
