A Zoo keeper has reportedly been mauled to death by a rare white tiger at a zoo in Japan. Akira Furusho, 40, was found collapsed and bleeding from his neck in the tiger’s cage.Zookeepers said at the Hirakawa Zoological Park, in Kagoshima said their four white tigers were sedated with a tranquilliser gun by rescuers. They added they will be reviewing safety animal safety procedures, local media reported. There was no immediate word on the fate of the tiger responsible for the attack. Last year zookeeper Rosa King was mauled to death by a tiger at Hamerton Zoo Park, Cambs. Police were called to the zoo at 11.15am on May 29 to reports of a serious incident. Witnesses described hearing screams and seeing keepers desperately try to distract the tiger with meat. White tigers are a variant of the Bengal tiger. They have distinctive colouring caused by a genetic defect. There are only around 200 white tigers in existence today, none of which are in the wild.
