The Euro 2020, is set to kick off later today in the eternal city of Rome, Italy, where the Italian will welcome the Turkish national team.
It is set to be a feisty occasion, with most punters and pundits giving the game to the Italian side led by former Inter Milan and Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini. The Italian national team has for the last 3-years been on a rebuilding process since it failed to qualify for the 2018 world cup, the first team it will be failing to qualify for an International footballing competition in 60-years.

And for the first time in 60-years, they aren’t considered as one of the favorites to win the tournament which makes them a dark-house prospect, but definitely not a favourite to win. So the question is, who are the favourites to win this year’s Euro 2020.
Going by the performances of the teams over the last few years, off the back of the last European competition and the last world Cup 2018, some teams have been quite consistent, while some of the usuals (superpowers) are currently undergoing a rebuilding process or some sort of resurgence. Examples of the resurgents including, Germany and Italy who both have had a terrible outing in the last few international competition.
Here below are our top 5, favourites to the competition, and below are our dark horses to win, followed by our outsiders pick.

While the English are of high hopes this could finally be their time, after being pushed to the sidelines of world
5. England: English national team and football have been in the backwaters of international football for way too long. Despite its claim to be the inventors of the modern global game of football, been the first country to codify the rules of the game. It is one of the most unsuccessful teams in Europe despite having the best league in the world.
Since its World Cup triumph in 1966 on home soil winning the Jules Rene trophy on England is yet to come close again to any international footballing competition triumphs. It closest was at the last World Cup where it came back 3rd best in the competition, defeated in the semis by Croatia.
England has it all to do now, but its winning of the competition seems most unlikely, considering the other teams it is set to come up against. But expect them to at least reach the semi-finals this team around. Under Gareth Southgate, they seem to have an identity more than they’ve had in the last 7 competition and he has stayed true to his guts and trying to play to their natural inclinations, but building on a strong defensive unit. That’s why here at KOKO we’ve picked them as our 5 favourite team to win the Euro 2020.
4. Germany: The Die Mannschaft, the deadly German machines are they back this time truly to dominate. Die Mannschaft have had a terrible outing despite winning the 2014 World cup over the last couple of competitions both the Europe 2016 which it lost to France and the 2018 World Cup which it failed to make it out of its group losing to South Korea.

This is set to be Joachim Low last competition in-charge of the German national team, with the team currently going through another semi-rebuilding process, with quite a high influx of young talented players mixing with some experienced old heads They seem like a team on a mission. Players to look out for in this team, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Mario Goretzka, while Marco Reus finally will get his time in the sun. Germany is our 4th favourite team to win.
3. Portugal:
The Portuguese are the defending champions of the Europes, and yes they make it into one of our top favourites. Is it possible that they don’t make our top 5 favourites to win the competition considering that they’re the defending champions and also noting that they are the winners of the inaugural European nations league?… Come on of course they’re one of the favourites if they can make it out of the group stages, in the same group that has Germany, France and Hungary.
The Portuguese team has some of the best forward players in Europe at the moment, with the 5 times ballon D’or winner also in its ranks, a forward line that includes, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Felix, Diogo Jota these guys are dangerous if they can get going.

2. Belgium: This is probably the most talented team at the competition but do they really have the stomach, guts, desire and drive to achieve this monumental feat. Well its up to them to step-up and achieve something exceptional with their golden generation.
This could probably be the last time they would all be together at a competition again. Over 90% of the squad are at the peak of their career and the best time for them to achieve true success and not just be another failed golden generation. Player to watch out for; Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Der Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Thibuat Courtois. They come in at the 2nd position.
- France: This world defending champions are in our top list, favourites to win the competition with the bundle of talents the French squad is blessed with. They seem way more than capable to win it this time, with the type of frontline it will be going into this competition with. Didier Deschamp has recalled Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema back to the national team, which will have Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, Wissam Ben Yedder, Kingsley Coman, with a midfield that will have the ever-visceral N’golo Kante, Paul Pogba and Juventus’s Adrien Rabiot to supply the frontline. They rank 1st, as our favourite to win the competition as long as they don’t get complacent and make it to the second, then its France all the way.
Euro 2020 Dark horses, 5 other teams that could also win;
1. Italy
2. Croatia
3. Netherland
4. Spain
5. Ukraine
