Grammy award winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy has revealed why he switched from football to music.

He spoke during a chat with British-Nigerian media personality, Julie Adenuga. The “Common Person” crooner said he was good at goalkeeping which he didn’t like because he “didn’t feel important.”

Burna Boy said, “I love football. I was good at playing football but the wickedest thing was that I was good at goalkeeping. That’s why I just stopped because [goalkeeping] was dead. I didn’t feel so important. I just didn’t feel like I was needed like that. I felt like without me the team will still be alright. I don’t want to spend my life like that.”

Burna Boy has released five studio albums since dropping his debut single ‘Like To Party’ in 2011. His fourth studio album ‘Twice As Tall’ became the first and only Nigerian album to win a Grammy award in 2021.
