#ThrowbackThursday: 3 World Champions That Fell From Grace To Grass

History literally repeated itself on Wednesday, as Joachim Low’s German machines crashed out of the 2018 FIFA world cup, after losing their final group stage match of the tournament.

Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son delivered the final nail to Germany‘s world cup coffin, after Young-Gwon Kim scored the opening goal of the match in the 90th minute.

Germany’s shocking early exit quickly brought back memories of some world giants that also experienced a sudden dip in form four years after conquering the world at the FIFA world cup. Some of these countries are:

1. Italy: After the likes Alessandro Del Piero and Gennaro Gattuso led the Azzurri giants to the 2006 FIFA world cup in Germany, Italy literally became a distant shadow of the dominant force they used to be, as they swiftly became pushovers at the global stage.

2. Spain: La Roja literally fell from grace to grass after winning the 2010 FIFA world cup in South Africa and the 2012 European cup in Poland.

3. Germany: The German machines stunned the football globe on Wednesday afternoon as they crashed out of the 2018 FIFA world cup after losing their last group stage match to South Korea.
