Femi Falana has revealed what he wants from the federal government as a birthday gift.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria and human rights activist on Thursday acknowledged President Muhammadu Buhari birthday wishes for him when he turned 60 on May 20. The President’s statement by his spokesman, Femi Adesina reads: “President Buhari commends Mr Falana’s sense of patriotism over the years, and his advisory roles to leaders, institutions and governments, especially on the value of good governance. As the legal luminary turns 60, the President believes his antecedents have been most exemplary and commendable in advocating for a better life for the poor and underprivileged.” Adding that, “President Buhari prays that the almighty God will grant the human rights lawyer longer life, good health and more wisdom to keep serving the country.”Femi Falana in his statement expressed his appreciation for the birthday message and prayers before revealing what he wants from the federal government as birthday gift. “I thank President Muhammadu Buhari for his wishes and prayers for me, but the birthday gift which I humbly ask from the Federal Government is more commitment to respect for human rights and rule of law,” Falana said, adding that “in particular, all Nigerian citizens, who are being detained illegally in the country should be freed without any further delay.”Femi Falana is the father of popular Nigerian rapper, Falz. The Nigerian lawyer contested and lost the governorship election of Ekiti State in 2007 on the platform of National Conscience Party, a party he served as National Chairman in 2011.  Photo Credit: Getty
