Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has revealed it’s a great honour after an Arsenal fan named his new born son after the German midfielder. Inzamam-Ul-Haq’s wife gave birth to the child in December last year and before the arrival the fan from India had already decided he would name the child after an Arsenal player.
Having considered naming it Arsene Wenger, he opted for Ozil (with Mohamed Elneny his back-up option). The first name was slightly altered to Mehd – as it has more meaning for Inzamam. ‘My friends, my family… everyone knows whatever I did, it had to be related to Arsenal,’ Inzamam explained of his choice.
Ozil has reacted with pleasure upon learning of the tribute, with the assist king even making a quip that Mehd Ozil can provide some assists of a different variety. ‘Great honour to be the inspiration for the name of this child,’ he said. ‘Sending my best wishes back to India and all the best for Mehd Ozil. Hope Mehd will assist his family with lots of smiles and memories in the years to come.’
