‘There’s No Way He Beats Me With A Hand Tied Behind His Back’ – Andy Ruiz Jr. Roasts Bloodied Tyson Fury

Mexican heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. took a swipe at Tyson Fury after the Gypsy King survived a huge scare against Otto Wallin to win on points in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Fury was expected to easily overcome the Swede but was caused huge problems in the third round when he was struck above the eye, with the wound gushing with blood and prompting repeatedchecks from the ringside doctor.

There were fears Fury might be pulled from the fight, with Wallin targeting the cut in the proceeding rounds, but the 31-year-old Brit dug in well to take back control, with the judges scoring the fight 116-112 117-111 118-110 in his favour.

Before his clash with Wallin, Fury had declared himself the best heavyweight in the division and taken numerous pops at his rivals, telling Mike Tyson on a podcast that he would beat three-belt champ Ruiz ‘with one hand tied behind his back’.

But after struggling so much against 25-1 outsider Wallin, Ruiz was less than impressed by Fury’s showing and let him know it afterwards.

‘After that performance there’s no way he beats me with a hand tied behind his back,’ tweeted the Mexican. Fury – who came out to fight wearing a poncho and sombrero in honour of Mexican Independence Day weekend – admitted afterwards that he was given a serious test against the unfancied Wallin.

Speaking before being taken to hospital, he said: ‘It was a great fight, I got caught on the eye and that changed the fight. For the majority I could not see out of the eye. Then there was a clash of heads and I got cut again. A good 12 rounds, he was tough. It’s all heart and determination if I can keep going I will do. He was 20-0, didn’t know how to lose but I was the better man.’

Wallin, whose ability had been questioned by the likes of Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn, said: ‘I did everything I could, I tried my best and Tyson is a great champion. Nobody can question my heart or question that I’m a good fighter.’
