Nigeria Decides 2023:The Use Of Technology And Its Effect On The Election

The 2023 general election will go down as  one of the hottest, basically due to the way the candidates shared the votes. Political commentators have however stated that the close knit competition was majorly because of the introduction of technology into the electioneering process.

Although the election was not without its fault, the introduction of BVAS and IREV, changed the game, and tends to bring a form of credibility into the whole process.

BVAS

BVAS is a machine that scans and authenticate the identity of every electorate, and makes sure that no every voter is indeed a Nigerian and meets the general requirement to vote in the country.

IREV

IREV is more like the backhend of the electoral umpire. The job of the IREV is basically to upload the election result in real time, so that the whole country can calculate and ascertain the result themselves.

Effect On The Election

The use of BVAS helped the commission to;

Identify the real voters

Weed out ghost voters

Record biometrics of registered voters

Eradicate miracle votes

IREV on the other hand helped the electoral umpire to;

Offer the much needed transparency

Allow ordinary Nigerians calculate their votes

Bring the commission closer to the people
