My Waist Bead Saved Me From Being Raped – Nigerian Lady
A Nigerian woman Gloria Tayelolu Bright, who was among those recently rescued from servitude in Lebanon, has shared her ordeal, recounting how her waist bead saved her from being raped. The 33-year-old Eruku-born Ekiti indigene of Ekiti Council, Kwara State disclosed this and more in an interview with Guardian in Ilorin before being handed over […]

Gloria recalled how she had been enslaved to heavy house chores and then her master was making advances at her. In order to turn him down politely without complicating matters, the mother of two noted that she lied to her boss that the waist bead is a charm given to her by her children’s father to prevent another man from sleeping with her. she then told him that any man who comes for her after wearing the waist bead will run mad for six days and die on the seventh.
I promptly told him that such a man would be mentally deranged for six days and that on the seventh day, he would die. That narration calmed him down temporarily and it gave me a momentary sigh of relief. That was how my waist beads saved me from being raped. But my life became miserable and I had to think of the way out of it, so that I would not die in a strange land.
