Jesse Lingard has broken ranks and ended Manchester United’s player silence on Jose Mourinho’s sacking with a classy message to his former boss.
The Red Devils axed the Portuguese manager at 9.46am on Tuesday after a dreadful start to the season left them 11 points off the Champions League spots. Despite Paul Pogba’s social media gaffe moments after the news was announced, the United squad has kept schtum since the announcement.
But after 32 hours the England midfielder, 26, has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to his former leader. Sharing a snap of him in action with Mourinho on the touchline close by, Lingard wrote: “Thank you for the wisdom.” Not one single player had spoken out on Mourinho’s departure on social media prior to Lingard’s message.
